The markets have had a topsy-turvy week! Some people lost their shirts, others made a ton of money - what are you doing to ensure your success?
Speaking to dozens of small business owners each week - I can quickly analyze which ones buy into the negative spin media is putting on the recent market whoas simply by the gripes and moans relating to the challenges they are having in their business; too much competition, no one is spending money, housing and stocks are down, high gas prices etc.
On the other side of the coin, I see other business owners in the same industry and the same market flourishing during these same temultous times.
Why is this?
When it comes to growing a successful business - these 5 fundamental principles apply in any market - UP or DOWN!
1. Create a Mindset for Success.
You must constantly strive to condition your thoughts and belief patterns to align with what your clear vision is for you and your business. Applying simple daily activities to your existing routine - ie: visualization, meditation, affirmations and staying focused on your ‘written’ goals (YES - write down your goals and look at them daily)
2. Focus on HIPAs.
You must focus on your Highest Income/Impact Producing Activities on a daily basis. If your skill set is creating the product or servicing the client, then 80% of your day should be dedicated to this. If your company role is sales then you absolutely MUST be spending 80% of your day in front of prospects, whether on the phone or in person.
3. Communicate with your customers.
Talk to your customers or clients. Chances are, they see the change coming before you do. Let them guide you in where the market is headed, what they want in products and services, and what they look for in a vendor. Providing an exceptional client experience and constant innovation will ensure your success even during the roughest times.
4. Accountabilty.
Ever heard the saying - ‘why do today, what you can put off ’till tomorrow’? Unfortunately this has become a mantra for many small business owners. The solution? Find yourself an accountability partner, whether it’s a co-worker, significant other or a coach - instill an accountability piece into your daily and weekly activity goals and watch your productivity soar.
5. Have Fun.
This one should be pretty self explanatory. If you’re not having fun, then your in the wrong place. You should have passion for what you are doing, and if you do, you will find a way to make your business work, no matter what!
